Greetings from Germany

Dear friends and colleagues,
Dear chefs around the world,

A few weeks ago in Germany, the chefs have selected a new leadership team. They determined me, Axel Ruehmann, to be the president of the Association of German Chefs e. V. - even with the weight of votes of many of our association members, the worldwide currently work outside of Germany. I take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for the choice you have made and send you many greetings from home!

On my side in the bureau, in the next four years I will be working with the four vice-presidents Robert Oppeneder, Johann Grassmugg, Andreas Rohde and Lothar Bungert for the German Chefs Association. We have formed six committees in all aspects of our profession: youth, exhibitions and cooking contests, wholesale and food service, catering and systems catering, vocational education and training, examinations and seminars, nutrition and healthcare, membership, media, communications and marketing as well as for restaurants, fairs and business partners of our association. The chairmen of the committees and the speaker of our nine regional associations are with me, as well as the vice-presidents of the twelve-member board of the Association of German Chefs. On our redesigned website www.vkd.com you can find all contacts to the Executive Board members.

We have set a string of objectives for ourselves: For example, we will build our own booth for all major fairs in gastronomy for our members, sponsors and partners as an attractive meeting place. We are developing our culinary competitions and will create new competitions for public catering, pastries and healthy nutrition for children. We want to create for our association professional public relations to the public so we will be better known, and with new members we will be even stronger. We will send our youth national team, the national team and the military team to international competitions to represent German cuisine and culinary art. Of course, German chefs will also continue to participate in the work of the WACS Global Chefs for the benefit of the family. As early as January next year, official delegates of the German association will use the opportunity at the 34th WACS Congress in Chile to take part in a sprightly discussion about the future of the world's bond.

With kind regards from Germany, I wish all chefs a Merry Christmas and a good start to a happy new year 2010.

Axel Ruehmann
President of the Association of German Chefs e. V.
