After long preparation and hard work by the Congress Committee and the many individuals who helped organizing the 35th WACS congress in Daejong, South Korea 1st to 5th of May I would like to use this opportunity to say THANK YOU ALL.
I am extremely proud of the work and achievement made on this important week for chefs.
Thanks to you we have achieved many of the goals we set our self for this congress. Just to name a few...
1. How to Feed the Planet: Thanks to Rick Moonen and all the delegates attending the round table discussion a declaration has been sent out to the rest of the world to inform that chefs can make a difference and have an interest to help with this world problem. Thanks to President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of the Republic of Iceland. Thanks to Al Gore, past Vice President of USA. Thanks to Mr. Danilo Türk, President of Slovenia. Thanks to Jamie Oliver and thanks to the Mayor of Daejeong Mr. Yum. Thanks to all you for your support to the chefs of the world.
2. Guinness World Record: We made it! 2111 chefs in full uniform in one photo. What a beautiful moment, a moment that will not be forgotten by anyone who attended.
3. Individual Chefs Certification program was announced and presented at the congress. later this year it will be open up for all nations around the world and will give chefs from all countries the opportunity to get their skills and know-how formally recognized. This is one of the greatest step WACS has made as it will give our profession world standard and help our fight to get our profession recognized in all countries around the world as a «Profession».
Now we are all reflecting on the last few weeks and gathering feedback and information for the future congress. Its no time to wait, we want to start on the next congress now so we will make it even more successful.
Congratulation also to all the chefs attending the competitions in South Korea, what a great show it was and what fantastic chefs we had. Look at the photos and videos at our website and you will feel the great moments with chefs are in action making beautiful food.
With Culinary Regards,
Gissur Gudmundsson
President of WACS
