International Chefs Day in Iceland / Chefs Without Borders
updated: 22nd October 2010
To celebrate the International Chefs Day in Iceland the Icelandic Chefs Association, the Icelandic Red Cross and the Hotel & Catering School of Iceland launched it´s program to prepare and organize emergency and releif kitchens in case of national emergencies, mass casualty incidents or/and natural disasters.
The agreement spells out in detail the roles and responsibilities of each organisation.
Because of this the Icelandic Chefs Association now has a clearly defined role as provider of care to those affected in case of national emergencies and mass casualty incidents.
The Icelandic Chefs Association provides funding and personnel for this purpose and hopefully soon will be working closely with the Chefs Without Borders and other national societies.
When the program is fully developed the Icelandic Chefs Association can actively participate in the humanitarian work of the Chefs Without Borders Foundation, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in countries where there are emergency situations, in areas where the inhabitants are in need of assistance because of war or other disasters.
Regards,
Haflidi Halldorsson
President of the Icelandic Chefs Association
