Dilmah Real High Tea Challenge comes to Paris!

30 march 2015 - The Dilmah Real High Tea started way back in 2007, when Dilmah Founder – Merrill J. Fernando felt that the High Tea occasion which was originally crafted around tea had lost its affinity with its origins. He felt that tea had been relegated to the bottom of a menu overcrowded with the traditional high tea fare that lacked inspiration, originality and most importantly any connection to tea. A passionate tea grower who worked tirelessly to share the joy of ‘real’ tea with the tea lovers around the world, he vowed to put the tea back in High Tea. Thus Dilmah Real High Tea was born.

Next July, this humble herb will be celebrated in all its glory as the international tea gastronomy elite showcase their prowess at a global scale with tea in the heart if it. The national winners of Dilmah Real High Tea Challenges from over 20 countries will travel to Sri Lanka to test their metal, their culinary vision and of course their understanding  of tea, to battle it out for the ultimate Global Winner’s title at the Dilmah Real High Tea Global Challenge.

Taking this one step further, the Dilmah Real High Tea Challenge was launched in collaboration with Dilmah Tea Gastronomy and World Association of Chefs Societies (Worldchefs). It is Dilmah quest to discover the quintessential 21st Century High Tea, inspired by Dilmah – the ‘real’ tea.

The Challenge so far has traversed the world end to end from Australia to South America, taking along with it the joy and the wisdom of tea, awakening a new respect among the culinary, hospitality and mixology professionals around the world. Each national challenge is judged by a panel of world-renown professionals which includes Bernd Uber – recipient of the exclusive and revered Sidney Taylor Memorial Black Hat Award, Dilhan C. Fernando – Director Marketing Dilmah Tea, Director Dilmah School of Tea and the visionary force of Dilmah Tea Gastronomy and, of course, some of the biggest names in the culinary world like Simon Gault, Uwe Micheel, Tony Khoo, Peter Kuruvita and more. Between a true tea connoisseur and some of the most prolific names in the culinary world, winning the national title is a tall order.

But if you thought that was hard, wait till May next year when the crème de la crème of the tea-inspired culinary world meet face to face for the first time. Exciting times are brewing for ‘real’ tea. As Dilhan Fernando says, “We’re not the first ‘tea challenge’, but we’re definitely the toughest.”

On it's road the Dilmah Real High Tea Challenge has made a stop in Paris where the lucky winners came from the Institut Paul Bocuse. Look at the images below to discover a taste of #DilmahRHT!
